copyright intellectual property initialization STATEMENT:
This piece references software authorization code in this case applied to the copyrighted leaf in the formerly shrink wrapped box. It is not clear whether the leaf which has escaped has been pirated though the title implies it. The leaf in the box reads both as an original and as a shadow of the escapee.

copyright branding collecting STATEMENT:
The piece is a metaphorical reference to invasive commercial branding. The subjects sport generic copyright notice--a kind of just in case claim of intellectual property. Just as cattle brands were presumably for life and the physical size of the brand grows with the animal, this brand defines ownership of a growing bundle of rights.

commodification property authentication STATEMENT:
Enveloped leaves have an embedded authorization code which is an exaggerated version of one used for software. The weed is backlit giving it a somewhat disquieting quality. Although there is no postal addressing reference, one should assume that the property is being monitered by RFID.

commodity spin STATEMENT:The blister box displays only the residue of a small amount of liquid but through naming pretends to bring joy and satisfaction to the consumer. In one word, slurpie manages to evoke waste, gleeful abandon, engorgement, poor hygene, and a host of other associations. Instead the piece is sparse, dry, and addresses the economics of scarcity.

control tracking analysis STATEMENT:Samples of algae are displayed under water in a not-so-special round plastic box. The superimposed tracking code suggests specifically inventory and quality control and control in general. The title stock pot suggests culinary beginnings, seeds, and prize ingredients.
