In one word, slurpie manages to evoke waste, gleeful abandon, engorgement, poor hygene, and a host of other associations. Instead the piece is sparse, dry, and addresses the economics of scarcity.

STATEMENT:Samples of algae are displayed under water in a not-so-special round plastic box. The superimposed tracking code suggests specifically inventory and quality control and control in general. The title stock pot suggests culinary beginnings, seeds, and prize ingredients.

STATEMENT: The title of this piece spins the meaning of this image from culinary to scientific. The piece is no longer fit to eat but is now the subject of systematic inspection, data collection, and analysis. Like the stockpot piece, it is about control.

STATEMENT: The viewer is invited to ponder the outcome of the various scenarios.
